What I Do With Coughs

What I Do With Coughs
I’m in a lot of wholistic groups. And a lot of mom groups. Every day I see at least 3 posts asking about what to do about awful coughs and lungs filling with mucus. My kids and I also experienced this last month, and at first I didn’t do anything in particular about it. Until it started getting worse instead of going away.
This is not medical advice, but I wanted to share what worked really well for my family when it seemed our bodies needed a “nudge” to turn around the illness.

1. Warm Onion Poultice

Chop an onion in half, or in thick slices, or into 1” pieces (just depends who you’re putting it in and what your preference is). Warm in oven or a pot with a little water, gently, until it sweats. Let it cool until it will not burn the skin, then apply over the lungs area and wrap with a towel and go to sleep or watch a movie. Onions can be reheated.

2. Fresh garlic juice

(I peeled a whole bulb and ran it through my masticating juicer) mixed with olive oil rubbed on front and back of chest (whole rib cage area), as often as every waking hour if it feels necessary. This can go under the onion poultice. This would also work great in and around the ears.

3. Garlic/Honey/Cayenne Mixture

I took the “pulp” of the garlic and mixed it with raw honey and cayenne pepper to taste. We took frequent consistent small doses. 3 cloves of raw garlic is said to be equivalent to one adult dose of antibiotics. But garlic is antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-yeast, pro-heart health, etc., and doesn’t mess with your microbiome.

4. Elderberry syrup.

I sell diy kits here https://herbalembrace.com/pro.../elderberry-syrup-diy-kit... or can make fresh batches for local pickup (just contact me). I didn’t take fire cider this time because for us the congestion was only lower and not much upper respiratory, but I have that for local sale as well. It’s really good for both, I was just traveling back and forth too much without bottling up a bit for my family.

5. These two teas

https://herbalembrace.com/.../pine-forest-tea-herbal... and https://herbalembrace.com/.../happy-lungs-herbal-loose... I just kept a pot of water on the stove for a couple of days ready to heat and make enough tea for us to drink until it flowed out of our ears 😉. Yes, that’s a Dr Christopher cute joke I love repeating.

6. Kid-e-reg for the kids and Lower Bowel Formula for me.

7. I made sure we were wearing and sleeping under natural fibers.

I’m trying to transition our clothing to be as natural as possible to allow proper breathing if the skin and energetic balance of the whole body. Anything new I look for 90-100%. Anything hand-me-down must be at least 50% natural fiber and absolutely no flame retardants.

8. Liquids Only

It’s harder to do with kids, though I would make them do it if it were serious enough, but for me I also did 24 hours of liquid only - veggie broth, water, fresh juice. I felt much improved after that and so added fresh fruits and veggies the next day.
I know what it’s like not to be able to afford medical insurance, or prepared herbal formulas. I hope this post helps anyone who can at least locate an onion and watch a YouTube video, like this one: https://youtu.be/QA-wi0d7-Ro?si=hazh2ZZBEbnMml0e
That said, if you can afford to buy teas and remedies, layering them on has helped my family get through illness much faster and more comfortably than ever before.
Any of the Dr Christopher products for the lungs, as well as Complete Tissue & Bone formula, are wonderful as well.

Breathe freely, my friends! 💗

If you want to be more ready for the next whatever-it-may-be, I have a series of class videos I recorded for people who have never used natural remedies before or have some working knowledge of them. https://www.everydayanexperiment.com/herbalclassvault
